This is an excellent, practical survey of the main areas of clinical ethics. I've used the seventh, and now eighth, edition for the past several years in teaching a course in clinical and research ethics at the University of California, Irvine. The cases are clearly presented, and representative of what physicians really encounter in clinical practice. The comments and recommendations following each case are thoughtful, well-considered and appealing. In class, we read the case out loud, and the class responds to the case with their own comments and anecdotes about related cases, or raise relevant questions.
This is a great book. I am teaching a Biomedical Ethics course with it, but I would recommend it to anyone considering a living will or health care proxy. It reviews DNRs, if and when to stop nutrition and hydration, surrogate decision makers and informed consent. The book illustrates concepts with cases which is why I got it for my course. The cases may be challenging for a layperson, but they may be helpful nonetheless.
Jonson and Winslade have provided us with the one indispensible guide to hospital biomedical ethics. I have served on three ethics committees since 1982, and have taught hospital biomedical ethics to physicians, nurses and clergy, This text is universally appreciated for its clarity, lucidity and authority. To attempt the discipline without this text is to be less than completely competent.

It was a required book for a medicine and morality course. It was well written; examples/cases of applicable ethical principles were highlighted. I would recommend this book.
A very clear presentation of how to structure an ethics consult. Provides an excellent summary of the thought process that goes into an ethics consult and some very good examples. Recommended especially to Ethics Committee members who are wading into ethical waters for the first time.
I now am the most ethical guy I know. Just kidding I was just forced to buy it for a class.
